December 20 Sermon Excerpt
God is always at work behind the scenes. We see that in the story of Ruth. The situation looked incredibly bleak for Naomi and Ruth, their husband were gone, they had no financial resources, and no real way to care for themselves…yet God was on the move for His good and glory. Do you know He is at work in your life? Do you see Him?
God always works behind the scenes. That’s what were celebrating in just a few days, isn’t it? Jesus…God’s Son, the Savior, the Lord, the King born in a stable, to simple parents, in a simple time all the while offering redemption and hope to all who believe. No one in that day was expecting the Savior to come in such meager ways, God always works behind the scenes. That’s evident in Jesus, the book of Ruth and even in all of our lives.
So there’s Ruth working in a field, collecting food for her and Naomi and God is at work. God was at work in Ruth. He was at work in Boaz. And He was at work in the fields. Grace comes in the simple and plain areas of our lives.
Jerry Bridges wrote in his book Trusting God, “Every day is important for us because it is a day ordained by God. If we are bored with life there is something wrong with our concept of God and His involvement in our daily lives. Even the most dull and tedious days of our lives are ordained by God and ought to be used by us to glorify Him.”
