Greed Devotional: Thursday, March 3
Pray that God will be enough in your life and that you won't seek more in wealth and possessions.
Read Ecclesiastes 5:10-12: He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes? Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much, but the full stomach of the rich will not let him sleep.
The writer of Ecclesiastes rightly observed that when we love money and wealth and seek it obsessively we will never be content, how have you noticed this in your own life?
There is nothing wrong with wanting and earning a wage that enables you to live, but greed enters our hearts when we chase after extravagant finances rather than God. The chase for more never fills us and we’re left unhappy and unsatisfied. In what ways did your obsessive greed cause you to be unhappy and unsatisfied?
Greed causes a man and woman to lose sleep (5:12), they are never content and always want more. The man and woman who works hard and labors for what they have sleeps peacefully.
Pray that God will give you a passion to work hard. Pray also that you will love Him more than you will love money and all types of others “things.”
