Greed Devotional: Wednesday, March 2

Begin with prayer.  Ask God to open your heart and mind to His truth.

Read 1 John 2:15-17: Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Honestly, in what ways do you love the world more than you love Jesus?  Does verse 15 scare you, that if you love the world the Father is not in you?

If the world is passing away (and it is) and you will eventually die (and maybe tomorrow) why do you put so much trust in worldly things?  Doesn’t it make sense to hope in something eternal?

Examine your life and your heart, are you doing the will of God (6:17)?

Pray that you will do the will of God, pursuing righteousness in everything (2 Timothy 2:22).
