November 15 Sermon Excerpt

The Christian life, following Jesus, is learning and living moment by moment for Jesus.  The Apostle Paul said in his letter to the Philippians: I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord (3:8).  The Christian life is not one without sin. It is not a life without struggle. It is not a life without pain and hardships.  But, it is a glorious life.  It’s a glorious life because of Jesus…just Jesus.

The Galatians forgot this.  They thought they could live how they wanted, follow some rules and laws, be “good people,” and that would make them Christians.  Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).  And in Matthew 16:24, Jesus said: If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up His cross and follow Me.

You see, the Christian life, isn't about the “good” in our lives outweighing the “bad.” It’s about knowing and following Jesus.  Underlying this study, we’ve seen that, the Apostle Paul has been stressing that, follow Jesus.  To the Galatians and to us, he says, are you living for the flesh (Greek: sarx) or are you living for the Spirit (God)?
