Laziness Devotional: Thursday, March 17
Begin with prayer that you would hear from the living God.
Read Proverbs 12:27 & 19:15: Whoever is slothful will not roast his game, but the diligent man will get precious wealth (12:27). Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger (19:15).
The lazy person is always too tired (19:15) and never able to complete a task (12:27). Pushed to the extreme the sloth (lazy person) would die if he or she had to feed themselves. Chances are that none of us would die of starvation because we’re too lazy to provide food for ourselves, but we do rely to heavily on others, which exposes our individual laziness. In what ways do rely on others too much rather than diligently working to provide for yourself?
One antidote to laziness is hard work and not expect everything to be handed to you. Would you describe yourself as a hard worker? Do you work too hard and don’t allow yourself to rest enough?
Pray that if you struggle with laziness you would work more diligently with the tasks that are given to you. Pray that if you work too hard and never rest, pray that you will just let things go sometimes so that you may be refreshed and enjoy the gifts and blessings that God has given you.
