Laziness Devotional: Wednesday, March 16

Proverbs 6:6-11: Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. How long will you lie there, O sluggard?  When will you arise from your sleep?  A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.

The ant is an example of a hard worker.  It has no “chief, officer, or ruler,” yet it takes initiative and is diligent in it’s work.  Make a list of the things that you work hard for.  Make a list of those things that you need encouragement to complete.  Why is taking initiative easy with some things and more difficult with others?

Late rising and too frequent naps crush productivity and cause idleness.  In what ways do you take rest for granted?

Ask God to protect you from idleness.  Pray that His Spirit will convict your heart and help you to serve Him each day with urgency and delight.
